before laying out his agenda for the next four years. just before noon sunday, supreme court chief justice john roberts administered the oath of office as required by law on the 20th of january. take a listen. >> please raise your right hand. i about a rack hussein obama swear that will faithfully execute the office of the president of the united states and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the united states so help me god. >> congratulations, mr. president. >> thank you, mr. chief justice. thank you so much. thank you, sweetie. thank you. >> i did it. all right. thank you, everybody.

ceremony later this morning. we're expecting up to 800,000 people to crowd on to the national mall where i'm standing to watch history in the making. president obama taking the oath of office for the final time. all along where i'm standing there are big screens to help people get as close a view as possible, even as they are prodded several blocks back from where the ceremony is actually taking place. the president won't be sworn in until just before noon. the ceremony does begin much sooner, closer to 9:30. people are going to need to dress warm because it is chilly out here this morning. security force this event is tight. up to 150 blocks around where i'm standing are shut down. thousands of servicemen and officers are here dealing with crowd control and also security. there's also a 30 mile no fly zone. after the ceremony will be the parade. one of the highlights are going to be eight floats dedicated to the first and second families and then also civil rights, one specifically dedicated to martin

luther king jr. of course, the first lady and president obama will round out all these festivities and an entire weekend full of celebration with the two balls, up to 40,000 people are expected to attend the inaugural balls. many cannot wait to find out what the first lady will wear. i'm danielle leigh, back to you. >> thank you. nbc meteorologist now with the forecast. we know for sure she is supporting some bangs. >> it looks awesome. >> i love it. >> i think she's wearing them very well. probably jacket of some sort, too. it will be a little chilly. got news is it's not going to be as cold as initially thought. the coldest of the air is going to hold off until tomorrow. that's good news. and we are going to see a few flurries. that will make it look real pretty, especially in the nation's capital. it is looking like a decent day. mix of sun and clouds with a few flurries. temperatures look just fine. here's where the cold air is. it dropped now to six below in minneapolis. that is your actual air temperature. now factor in the wind. it feels like it's 25 degrees

below zero in minneapolis. it's only going to top out today at four below. it is looking frigid across the northern plains, even colder as you head up into northern minnesota and northeastern north dakota. this is the arctic air that's going to surge across portions of the great lakes tomorrow and eventually into the northeast with tusk tesda tuesday being t day this week. we'll see a few light snow showers tonight into tomorrow morning. as far as snowfall is concerned, a couple lake-effect snow showers across the western parts of new york and northwestern pennsylvania, even western michigan. that's where we'll see several inches of lake effect snow. but the storm system that's going to pass mostly to the southeast of nantucket, we're going to see perhaps with ocean enhancement, six to eight inches of snow across the outer cape. two to four across most of southern new england. an area waiting for some snow. ver on yak?

>> thank you. more violent attacks in afghanistan today. taliban suicide bombers blew up a car in front of police headquarters in kabul. that set off a long gun battle that left three militants dead. ten other people were wounded. it was the second raid inside the afghan capital in less than a week. the death toll from the siege in algeria reached 81. algerian forces searching the narm gas plant for explosives fount more bodies. many of them were so badly disfigured it was unclear whether they were hostageors militants. algerian special forces soldiers stormed the plant on saturday to end the siege. many people were left dead or missing. the teams for this year's super bowl showdown are set. the ravens will face off against the san francisco 49ers. last night the ravens overcame a strong start by the new england patriots to win the afc

good morning. welcome back n new mexico, authorities say a 15-year-old boy is facing murder and other charges after a fatal shooting over the weekend. five people were killed, the boy's father, his wife and three younger children. gun sales are surging across the nation in huge lines formed at an indianapolis gun show. one man shot himself in the hand as he was leaving that show and there were four other accidental shooting injuries in ohio and north carolina. barbara walt serz hospitalized after falling at an inauguration party in washington cutting her forehead. she will be okay but will not be covering the inauguration today. an abc spokesman says barbara is alert and telling everyone what to do. in bulgaria, police detain a man after he pointed a gas pistol at a turkish minority

when his kids asked for a puppy. he told them that he would get them one if they could get one million likes on facebook. so they took a photo with a sign that said hi world, we want a puppy. and get this, it went viral reaching the one million mark within six hours. dad came through on his promise adopting millie, this little lab-shepard mix. in sports now. super bowl xlvii is billed as the battle of the harbaugh brothers. john harbaugh's ravens avenge last year's patriot defeat with three touchdown passes by joe flacco. and ravens fans celebrated beating new england 28-13 to win the afc title game. earlier, frank gore had two touchdown as jim harbaugh staged the biggest come back victory ever in an nfc championship game, 28-24 over atlanta. and niners fans in san francisco

went wild. the ravens and 49ers will go head-to-head in new orleans in two weeks on february 3rd. it is the first time two brothers will coach against each other in a super bowl. now their father, jack harbaugh, played one year of professional ball with the afl's new york titans back in 1961. after his two sons jim and john were born, jack began a long coaching career in high school and college. now to college basketball, second ranked indiana's cody zeller scored 21 points as the hoosiers edged northwestern 67-59. indiana could become number one this week because louisville lost to syracuse saturday. check out this video. surfers rode waves between 20 and 30 feet high in california in the famed mavericks invitational surf contest in half moon bay south of san francisco. the winner, 43-year-old peter mel from santa cruz. congratulations. and now for another look at the weather, here is dylan
